BISP Program Updates
The Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) has launched a comprehensive review in May 2025 to ensure that financial assistance reaches the most deserving families. The process includes removing ineligible people based on updated criteria.
Reasons for Exclusion from BISP
- Government Jobs
- Those individuals or their spouses working in government departments, such as Pakistan Railways, the Post Office, and even BISP, are excluded.
- Car Ownership
- Having one or more cars, either by the beneficiary or his/her spouse, excludes them from the assistance.
- Overseas Travel: Beneficiaries or their spouses who have traveled abroad, particularly more than once, are considered to be financially secure and hence excluded.
- High Telephone Bills: Monthly telephone bills of more than Rs. 1,000 are a sign of a higher income level, which results in disqualification.
- Executive Services: Seeking passports or CNICs from executive centers, either by the beneficiary or his/her family members, is an indicator of financial capability, which leads to exclusion from the program.
- Ownership of Substantial Land: Having more than 12 acres of land is an exclusion criterion, as it is an indicator of substantial assets.
- High PMT Score: A score in the Proxy Means Test (PMT) greater than the cutoff (usually 32) represents a more advantageous financial situation, rendering the individual ineligible for assistance under BISP.
